Updates on the South Carolina Toddler - Amir Jennings

Amir Jennings has been missing since November of 2011. Amir's mother (Zinah Jennings) is still in police custody pending information about his whereabouts. She is being charged with cruelty toward a child and is heavily drug due to her mental illness. Zinah is pregnant and in jail. Her attorney (Hemphill Pride II) is pleading for her release in order to obtain proper prenatal care. However, Jennings is considered a flight risk and they are still questioning her in regards to what happened to 17 month old Amir. Zinah is taking Risperdal (a drug that is used to treat schizophrenia) and is not very responsive.  The Charlotte police seem to be doing a great job in keeping Zinah Jennings off the street. And with any luck, when her second child is born, it will be placed in a good home. I wish other police departments that are dealing with similar cases of missing children start adopting the practice of detaining people of interest until the cases are solved. The suspects would no choice but to cooperate. However, if the person is convicted of the crime and has served a significant amount of time in jail on suspension, this could cause the double jeopardy effect and they will get off with either time served or a lighter sentence.

The parents of Lisa Erwin, Alya Reynolds, Jhessye Shockley and countless other children who's parents have had something to do with their disappearance, should be treated just like Zinah Jennings. It shouldn't matter that she has a mental illness. Most likely, these other parents do too! But the police would never know because they aren't digging deep enough into the background of the parents. The fact is, very few children are abducted by strangers. A high percentage of the time, these children are abducted or killed by family members. Due to the lack of proper investigation, a lot of these cases go cold because the family members do not tell the truth or refuse to cooperate with police.

Hopefully, they will find Amir alive and safe. But as of now, it looks like there is a very slim chance we'll ever see him alive again.

If you have any clues, tips or information about the whereabouts of Amir Jennings, please contact the Charlotte, South Carolina Police Department at: (704) 336-7600
